What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis is a state of focused attention and concentration, enhanced by mental and physical relaxation. When you are relaxed and your mind is focused you are able to use your mind more powerfully. This state of mind may be achieved either by learning self-hypnosis or with the help of another person - a hypnotherapist.

How does it work?
As you enter a relaxed state your breathing, heart rate and metabolism all slow down and your brain waves change. A hypnotherapist can use this state of mind to encourage your inner resources to help create desired and beneficial change. In this regard, it is the innate healing capacity of your own body that may be stimulated by Hypnotherapy.
The aim of hypnotherapy is to assist you to find meaningful alternatives to current unsatisfactory ways of thinking, feeling or behaving. Hypnotherapy is one of the best, and most relaxing ways to facilitate and encourage positive change.

Some Common Concerns
People are sometimes concerned that they will ‘lose control’ in hypnosis. However, regardless of how deeply you may go in hypnosis and however passive you may appear to be, you will remain in full control of the situation. You will be fully able to talk if you wish to and can end the session at any time.
To achieve maximum therapeutic results the most important thing is that you should feel comfortable and at ease with your therapist. For this reason Health Works offers a free initial 30 minute consultation – this can be in person or by phone.
How many treatments will I need?
This matter of time is especially important in our current society, which has, in many respects, been coerced into believing that gratification of every desire should be instantaneous. Hypnotherapy can be extraordinarily effective but it is not magic. However, if you are committed to creating the changes you desire and if you feel comfortable working with your practitioner, then your goals are definitely achievable!
Hypnotherapy is generally considered to be a fairly short-term approach in which beneficial change should become apparent within a relatively few sessions.
Your first session may last up to 2 hours and will include a full assessment of your current situation. Therapy may include teaching self-hypnosis, relaxation techniques, EFT, NLP, life-coaching and, if appropriate, you will be given a free hypnotherapy CD to take away with you to use at home. Regular use of the CD will help to consolidate the work done in therapy sessions.
